Physocarpus capitatus commonly called pacific ninebark or tall ninebark is a species of physocarpus native to western north america from southern alaska east to montana and utah and south to southern california. There are two species that are commonly grown. Capitatus means having a head referring to its dense flower or fruit cluster. The bark consists of many layers hence the name ninebark.
